About the work :

125th and Broadway is a painting by contemporary French artist Guillaume Chansarel.

New York is one of Guillaume Chansarel's major inspirations. The city, which graphic landscapes offer unlimited creative possibilities, is the object of the artist's paintings. The figurative painting 125th and Broadway reveals a typical New York urban landscape. The perspective contributes to the realistic aspect of this work. The different elements are superimposed so as to add depth to this architectural setting, and its geometrisation brings about a resonance between the lines of pattern building and the lines of the printed text in a harmonious and very realistic composition.

Megacities are the artist's favorite subject. Through his paintings, Guillaume Chansarel attempts to capture the city's graphic identity, as a photographer would press the shutter button on his camera. The uniqueness of the artist's work lies in the realistic aspect of his work but also on the original use of an innovative support : pages of print from antique books onto which he draws and then paints, and consequently which tells a completely new story.
