Contemporary paintings, more than just aesthetic artwork

According to the contemporary filmmaker: Jean-Luc Godard, “Cinema, like painting, shows the invisible”. Paradoxically, this statement is also interesting because the comparison between cinema, a recent 7th art, and several hundred years old painting says a lot about what a painting is. Painting, like the cinema, are pictorial arts where composition allows the artist to have the freedom to interpret reality. Cinema reaches a higher level of reality thanks to moving images. However, numerous theories warn the viewer: cinema is not a literal art, you have to know how to read its different meanings.

The same goes for painting. A painting is certainly an image, but it is never a replica of reality as a meaning is inevitably added. This is even truer about contemporary paintings: since the middle of the 20th century, artists have moved away from a figurative style and produced abstract paintings with shapes and colours rich in meaning, but needing interpretation.

Artistics paintings

The online art gallery Artistics, represents and promotes contemporary artists whose creations reveal unseen elements. Their works offer a step back: looking at the world through a painting gives rise to a motionless journey, imaginary and the distant, a point of view where the world is more easily understood. Whilst browsing these pages, you will find the contemporary paintings by our artists. Among the international artists we support, around fifteen painters join our sculptors and photographers exhibiting their original works of art. They all have originality in their artwork in common as well as excellent technical mastery as demonstrated in their contemporary paintings.

Our contemporary paintings

The Luxembourg artist Joachim van der Vlugt’s painting fluctuates between figurative and abstract. In his landscape paintings, realistic motifs mix with abstract shapes. In the world of Joachim Van der Vlugt, a mountain landscape is suddenly crossed with opaque rectangles and religious figures float in undefined surroundings, creating an almost metaphysical, captivating and even sometimes disturbing atmosphere.

Artwork by the Spanish painter Ramon Enrich also testifies to an established harmony between representation and reinterpretation of reality. His contemporary paintings offer a wide palette of bright colours producing an effect of warmth and light radiating beyond the edges of the canvas. The artist paints deserted areas with only architectural buildings as simplified forms giving perspective and inviting the viewer to contemplate on.
