About the work :

The Den of Ithaca is an artwork by French contemporary artist Frédérique Domergue.

Frédérique Domergue finds her inspiration in nature and especially in the seaside. Her paintings evoke landscapes, skies and seas that are sometimes calm and tranquil, sometimes dark and turbulent. In this abstract work the artist could be portraying the sea that baths the beach, under a dark sky. The title refers to a mythic place in Ithaca described in the Odyssey and dedicated to the water nymphs, the Naiads.

Frédérique Domergue uses thin sheets of metal applied on wood or aluminum panels. Through a patient process of polishing and oxidation the artist manages to confer a warmth and sensuality which tempts the observer to caress the oxidized surface of her paintings, now become all radiant and silky.

This work is signed and is sold unframed.
