Introducing Klaus Kampert

The photographic universe of Klaus Kampert revolves around beauty, portraits, nudes and dance. To Klaus, the body is the shell of the soul and with every different body pose, his photography aims to present the model as a holistic being, a union of both mind and body.

In his childhood, Klaus Kampert favored drawing, painting and sculpting before turning his hand to photography. Thanks to a photo taken with his father’s old Leica camera, Klaus wished to know more about this art form. After years of practice and a solid background in advertising and fashion photography he came to realize that this was to be the ultimate medium for his artistic creation.

Klaus Kampert is always in search of “true substances.” His work explores human body language in its different forms. During the creation process Klaus first works on the body which involves setting the “light and shadow”, and this to simplify the image. Then he and the model will work on the “body language” to convey the message. The third step is the “expression” of the model which will set the emotion of the picture.

In his photos with “headless” models (168.02.12 from Wrapped series) individual identity is weakened so more focus is placed on the body language. Geometrical structures are frequently used (172.03.12 from Dancing Rays of Light series, 127.01.04 from Ballet Calendar series, 121.05.01 from Moonstruck series) to construct a clear composition and emphasize the space and the body movement in it. Inspiration is also drawn from other forms of visual art such as the masterpieces in painting (160.07.11 from Tribute to Modigliani series.)

What matters most to Klaus Kampert is that the spectator understands the emotional side to his photography.
