About the work :

Line 1213-13 is an artwork by contemporary Korean artist Ahn Hyun-Ju.

This artwork on aluminum is an abstract painting. Worthy of an optical illusion, this painting challenges the observer’s vision: the bright colorful vertical lines interweave and superimpose in a downward directed movement, splitting the painting into two parts. In the upper part, the colors alternate in a regular way, then the lines break, yet retaining their regularity. Many paradoxical impressions emerge from this pictorial oeuvre which changes depending on the viewer’s point of view - confusing or rigorous, with a smooth or textured surface.

Ann Hyun-Ju's work bears the mark of her training in both painting and sculpture. Experimentation is at the very heart of her approach and is a part of every aspect of her work: supports, shapes, materials, color association… Her abstract paintings, influenced by 1960s and 1970s American minimalism, refute any metaphorical language and all narrative intentions. They are a part of a pure aesthetic quest that the artist qualifies as follows: "What I am trying to do is translate my aesthetic ideas into a pictorial language."

Artwork sold signed, unframed.
