About the work :

Office Telephone is a photograph by Norwegian artist Christian Houge from the “Pyramid” series, realised in 2007 on the island of Spitsberg.

Fascinated by the low populated Svalbard Archipelago and by the island of Spitsberg above all, Christian Houge photographs these strange lunar views and the huge uninhabitated plain covered by ice in winter and by rocks in summer.

Svalbard Islands have been exploited for their natural resources especially by Russian government, with the construction of three mines that nowadays are completely abandoned: Grumat, Barentsburg and Pyramid. Photographs by Christian Houge testify to the downfall of this colonial heritage and reveal about problematic tensions behind the ideological will of the USSR, responsible both of the building and the downfall of this huge estate.

Signed and numbered photograph only available in limited edition.
