Ennobling nude photography

The famous and provocative Japanese photographer, Nobuyoshi Araki once said: “The whole thing about art, is to do what you shouldn’t“. This aesthetic philosophy embodies the avant-garde career of the contemporary artist. Through his lens, Araki approaches philosophical themes such as death, love or time. Flowers and women are recurring elements in his images: the flowers are feminine, and the women are often naked.

Nude, black and white or street photography, the Japanese photographer’s highly prolific career is unquantifiable and there are endless 21st Century artists inspired by his work. Nude photography, however, has a special place in the photographer’s artistic work. Considered quite provocative, his pictures have often been censored due to the explicit nudity of the model or due to their violence. However, the same goes for many photographic artists, such as the American Larry Clark, whose photographs exhibited in museums don’t always meet with unanimous approval, even if the tradition of representing naked bodies, male in particular, has been practiced since antiquity.

Our nude photography artists

For German photographer Klaus Kampert, nude photography is nothing more than the area he chose as a photographer. Ever since he was a fashion photographer, he has always had a particular connection with the human body and able to draw out figurative or abstract poses. In his studio, naked bodies are the raw material of art where he constantly exploits the creative possibilities, paying homage to those that inspired him: Modigliani, Tchaikovsky or the Düsseldorf ballet dancers he worked with.

The fantastic diversity of Klaus Kampert’s work also pays homage to all the nude photography masters and one can have fun finding similarities with other artists’ work in his artwork series. But his artwork is primarily known for its uniqueness and the virtuosity with which he always manages to surprise and amaze the viewer without ever deviating from the subject and with great economy (the sets are often minimal), but with thanks to perfect lighting control.
