About the work :

Vibration n°2 is a bronze sculpture by French artist Martine Demal, from the series Signs & Writings.

This abstract sculpture is the artist's first stage of her abstract work. Using the body as a starting point, Martine Demal researched the requirements of balance and rhythm, intrinsic to working a sculpture. The artwork’s forms are then refined, the figures like ancient sculptures gradually lose their heads and limbs. The term ‘vibration’ then describes the absolute rhythmic needs that an abstraction demands and is a reference to the real vibration of wind against the bronze. For Martine Demal, sculpture is a multidimensional creation that, as soon as it is purified, really becomes a sign. These stripped-down forms bring with them a visually harmonious and rhythmic sense.

The French sculptress Martine Demal chose the body form as the basis of her aesthetic study. A desire of formal and dynamic balance led her creativeness and also initiated the move towards a more abstract work. In seeking purer shapes, the artist has gradually removed the anthropomorphic features in her artwork, making way for traits of formal human essence, as well as a unique rhythmic harmony. The written word, a conduit of meaning, has become a directing guideline for research and can convey inexhaustible subtle meanings.

The indicated dimensions include the base of the sculpture, which is 31 cm H x 22 cm L x 12 cm D. Original artwork: the sculpture is signed and available in 8 editions and 4 artist’s proofs.
